Business Unit Manager

POSITION PURPOSE:
The collaborative management and leadership of team based production groups focused on evolving our manufacturing continuous improvement culture. The development, execution, training and support for meeting the demands of our customers as related to quality and delivery, and achieving our internal goals of increasing revenue and margin while developing talent.
CUSTOMERS SERVED/WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
Manages our location specific Supervisor teams as a mentor while performing as a Manufacturing Management Team peer group liaison across locations to ensure symmetry throughout all locations is achieved.
Interfaces internally with our Global Sourcing and Supply, Marketing, Customer Service, Engineering and Finance teams as a supporting peer group member of our Manufacturing Management Team.
Interfaces externally with our suppliers and customers to gain knowledge from the Voice of the Supplier (VOS) and Voice of Customer/Distributer (VOC/VOD) to understand their needs.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Mentor the location specific Supervisor Team while performing as a Manufacturing Management Team peer group liaison across locations to develop a "1-Team" mindset throughout all locations.
Develop short and long term strategies that support the overall CSI business objectives and initiatives. This includes the measurement of internal and external KPI (Key Performance Indicators) that proactively identify opportunities for improvement, while providing warning signals for potential problems based on performance trends.
Document all locational current state processes and procedures as a baseline for improvement. Share "best practices" for the development and transition of new future state processes and procedures that "best fit" all locations.
Continuous learning of DDMS methodologies and use of tools and skills while promoting the continuous education of the Supervisor Team. Providing support and influence for our continuous improvement culture targeting prioritized opportunities in Safety, Quality and Delivery through MDI and Problem Solving.
Identify, lead and execute cost savings projects to targeted annual goals.
Create annual plans for Fixed and Variable budgets; includes making adjustments throughout the year based upon business conditions.
Plan and manage all business unit resources (i.e. manpower, capital, equipment and inventory) while visualizing constraints, identifying inefficiencies and implementing solutions while ensuring accurate and effective data is available for making fact based decisions.
Participate and report out in all essential Operation's team and cross functional organization meetings.
Hire and train new team mates.
Provide effective challenges and feedback to facilitate individual and team growth.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION OR DEGREE: Bachelor degree required; Manufacturing/Engineering is attractive. MBA is not required, but beneficial.
WORK EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE:
10+ years working directly in a Lean Manufacturing setting using practices equivalent to the DDMS (Douglas Dynamics Management System, based on the Toyota Production System) is required; "hands on" experience as an OEM is a plus. Thorough understanding through the development, application and execution of:
Strategy Deployment
5S
Level loaded production and corresponding Manpower planning
Visually managed pull systems (Kanban)
Basic DDMS Lean Knowledge: i.e. Standard Work, Problem Solving, Managing Daily Improvement (MDI)
Kaizen, 3P, and general project management
OTHER RELATED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
High level Microsoft Office software user, i.e. Excel, Word, Power Point; capable of developing process tools, professional presentations, reports (A3 formats).
High level logical and strategic thinker; capable of developing and managing project plans while prioritizing opportunities.
High level written and verbal communicator; capable of training/mentoring teammates and presenting projects to all levels throughout the organization including senior management.
High level multi-tasker; capable of balancing multiple projects/tasks at a time.
High level team builder and leader; capable of managing teams across multi-locations with synergistic performance expectations both tactically and strategically.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS: Any licenses/certifications related to Lean Manufacturing a plus.



Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
